Penn State football and three-star cornerback Semajay Robinson officially went their separate ways on Tuesday.

Robinson announced his flipped commitment to Virginia on June 9, which was reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3. The decision came after the cornerback saw the Nittany Lions over the weekend on an official visit.

Robinson was committed to Penn State since March 28 before his flip. Despite being committed for a few months, he clearly did not shut his recruitment down and was still weighing his options.

Before his official visit in Happy Valley, Robinson saw the Cavaliers on May 29-31 the weekend prior. According to Rivals, he still has an official visit scheduled with Mississippi State, but whether he takes it or not has yet to be reported.

He is ranked No. 501 nationally, No. 50 at cornerback, and No. 42 from Florida, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Semajay Robinson officially flips commitment from Penn State to Virginia

Robinson was the first commit the blue and white picked up. Associate head coach/cornerbacks coach Terry Smith extended an offer in late January, and after his unofficial visit in late March, Robinson pledged his loyalty to the Nittany Lions. Now, he's the first commit to change his mind and walk away.

The lead up to his de-commitment was dramatic. He had a decent visit with head coach Matt Campbell over the weekend, even posting on social media to garner Penn State fan support. Robinson seemed all-in with the Nittany Lions, but suddenly removed all affiliation to the program from his social media.

The mixed signals made it clear that both parties in this scenario opted to part ways. Campbell's emphasized rooting the program in a strong, "all-in" kind of culture. With his recruitment feeling topsy-turvy, it makes sense why Penn State wants to focus on its loyal commits and top cornerback targets and why Robinson wants to explore other options he feels more strongly about.

After the removal of everything blue and white from his social media pages, expert predictions came rolling in favoring Virginia to flip Robinson. It didn't take much longer for the official decision to come in.

The de-commitment and flip cut Penn State's Class of 2027 cornerback room from four to three. The Nittany Lions still have four-star Kei'Shjuan Telfair and two three-star prospects, Ka'ron Ceasar and Zachary Gleason Jr., committed. They have a total of 21 commits now after losing Robinson.
