On Sunday the Penn State football team earned a new addition to the 2024 recruiting class, as 2024 offensive tackle Deryc Plazz committed to Penn State. Plazz attends Andrew Jackson high school in Jacksonville, Florida and he stands at 6’5 280 lbs.

He is a 3-star prospect according to On3, and he chose Penn State over Miami, Flordia State, Duke, and North Carolina State. He becomes the 3rd prospect from the state of Florida in the 2024 class joining defensive backs Jon Mitchell and Antonie Belgrave-Shorter.

The Nittany Lions now have 6 offensive line commits in this class with players who will be ready to play right away and others who will need a year or two to develop. It’s the perfect scenario as depth along the offensive line seems to always be an issue for every college football team in November.

When I watched his tape I noticed that Plazz loves to finish his blocks, this guy plays to the whistle and he is not afraid of contact that is for sure. He has great power in run-blocking scenarios and he has great length in passing situations. I will say that currently, it appears that he is bigger / stronger than most of his current high school competition so I could certainly see him needing a year to adjust to the college level. But Plazz has all of the tools to be an elite offensive lineman at Penn State.

The job that offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has done with the 2024 class cannot be praised enough. He went out and found a bunch of players that fit Penn State’s style of play and will be great representatives of the Blue and White. Plazz is a raw talented player but after some coaching and time on campus, I would expect him to be in the rotation along the Nittany Lion offensive line.
