On Monday night, former Penn State basketball forward Caleb Dorsey announced on his Instagram that he would be transferring to William & Mary.

Dorsey entered the transfer portal back on March 22nd from there, he was able to find a destination and make a decision roughly 3 weeks later. This is an incredible turnaround, to not only find a school that he felt comfortable with, but to also make a decision this quickly is impressive.

This is ideal for Dorsey to find a new home where he can earn additional playing time. The 6’7 forward just finished his junior year with the Penn State basketball team, he averaged 2.3 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game. He appeared in a career-high 16 games and made 9 starts last season.

He moves to William & Mary located in Williamsburg, Virginia. They are a small Division 1 school and play in the Colonial Athletic Association. During the 2022-2023 season, they finished with a record of 13-20 on the season while going 7-11 in conference play.

This is a great fit for Caleb Dorsey in my opinion. He played well during his time at Penn State, he just needs more minutes and William & Mary is a school where he can go and make an impact immediately

Dorsey is a great finisher around the rim and he has worked on expanding his range beyond the 3-point arc. Last season he made a career-high four 3-pointers. That is the evolution we have seen in the modern game of basketball, to become a true “stretch 4” you need to be able to shoot the ball well. He also is a very efficient rebounder.

I am happy to see Dorsey find a new home, he will be someone that the Penn State community will always support. I wish him the best during the next chapter of his career with the William & Mary Tribe.
