On Monday, the Penn State football team received a new commitment from Antoine Belgrave-Shorter, a 3-star 2024 cornerback from Jacksonville, Florida. He chose Penn State over Miami and UCF.

Belgrave-Shorter is a physical corner that can make any tackle in the open space. He is incredibly athletic when you turn on the tape, he also can track the ball very well while it’s in the air.

Back on April 1st, the Nittany Lions landed 2024 4-star cornerback Jon Mitchell.

Mitchell and Belgrave-Shorter are current teammates at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL and they will continue being teammates, this time in State College, PA. The duo visited Penn State at the same time at the beginning of April and they both walked away impressed with what the Nittany Lions had to offer.

In a recent story from Lions247’s Tyler Calvaruso, Belgrave-Shorter was quoted stating “It looked like I could fit right into the system.”

I think this goes to show just how successful the Penn State football staff has been in building a player-friendly scheme. It sure helps when Penn State has produced recent players like 2022 2nd-round NFL draft pick Jaquan Brisker. Projected 2023 1st round NFL draft pick Joey Porter Jr, and projected 2023 2nd-3rd round NFL draft pick Ji’Ayir Brown. If he can put together another successful season we could also see Kalen King go early in the 2024 NFL draft. Penn State is quietly becoming an NFL factory for producing defensive backs.

Penn State football has done a great job recruiting the Florida area, especially for defensive backs over the past few years.

Sophomore cornerback Cam Miller from the 2022 recruiting class is from Jacksonville, Florida.

The 2023 class included safety Elliot Washington, from Venice, Florida, and safety King Mack, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Now, the 2024 class includes both Jon Mitchell and Antoine Belgrave-Shorter both from Jacksonville, Florida.

Penn State’s class has moved up to 10th overall in the country so far for the 2024 recruiting class. Coach Franklin and the staff are really starting to pick up momentum in building the 2024 class.
