Penn State Football: A Veteran Running Back Commits to Penn State
Former Minnesota running back Trey Potts has committed to the Penn State football team via his Twitter.
This is huge news considering former Penn State football running back Keyvone Lee entered the transfer portal back this past January. Lee was really the 3rd option at running back by the end of last season.
The depth behind Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen is slim and inexperience with Tank Smith, a few preferred walk-ons, and eventually this summer true freshmen Cam Wallace and London Montgomery will join the team.
During his career at Minnesota, Trey Potts rushed for 1,198 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns (per ESPN). He even played against Penn State last season in the whiteout game, he had 5 carries for 7 yards.
Potts will fit really well into Penn State football’s rushing attack. He has a really good blend of speed and power. Typically Minnesota develops some really good backs and Potts is no different.
It will be great to have a veteran in the room as well. Although Singleton and Allen are very talented in their own right, it’s perfect to have Potts become the room’s vocal leader.
This also will allow the freshmen running backs to take this season to develop and grow. With less weight on their shoulders to play right away. Keep in mind that London Montgomery is coming off of a knee injury suffered last fall. Both Montgomery and Cam Wallace will not be on campus until July which would put them at a disadvantage. Singleton and Allen were able to enroll early which helped prepare them for the 2022 season and the success they found on the field.
Trey Potts is a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania so, it’s a nice homecoming for him. Plus with injuries in the sport of football, Penn State fans know all too well how important running back depth is.
