Penn State football added yet another member to the 2023 recruiting class with London Montgomery now in the fold.

Penn State football received more good news on Monday with 4-star running back London Montgomery committing to the Nittany Lions.

Recently bumped up to a 4-star in the 247 Sports composite, Montgomery became the No. 1 priority for Penn State when Treyaun Webb committed to Florida last week.

The Scranton Prep star is listed as the No.1 running back in Pennsylvania and No. 391 player in the nation. In addition to Penn State, his offers included Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

Montgomery, who is listed at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, received his Penn State offer back in March. The speedy tailback took a visit up to Happy Valley in April and the had an official visit to Penn State in June. He is the seventh recruit to commit to Penn State after taking an official visit to the school.

Montgomery continues the storied tradition of in-state running backs committing to Penn State. While the tradition goes back to the days of John Cappelletti, it has really taken off under James Franklin.

Since Franklin arrived in 2014, six Pennsylvania running backs have committed to Penn State. That group consists of Andre Robinson, Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, Journey Brown, Nick Singleton and now Montgomery. This group has been vital parts of Penn State’s success over the years.

When Montgomery arrives at Penn State in 2023, he will join a young and talented group. By next year, Singleton and Kaytron Allen are expected to receive the bulk of the carries. Montgomery could be a nice complimentary piece early his career, thanks to his speed and pass-catching capabilities. All three bring something different to the table, which could give the Nittany Lions one the more dynamic running back units in the country in a couple years.

With Montgomery now on board, the Nittany Lions have 17 commits in their 2023 class. The class ranks No. 6 in the nation and has a blue-chip recruit ratio of 70%.
