Entering the 2023 offseason, Penn State Football needed to replace the production of both Parker Washington and Mitchell Tinsley, who are off to the NFL.

There are many talented options that were already on the roster; however, in today’s day and age it would be foolish to not look at the transfer portal. Penn State did just that as they added two players from the transfer portal at the wide receiver position this offseason. Both players will be able to compete for a starting job here at Penn State, but also the opportunity to emerge as wide receiver #1 as well.

The importance of being the #1 option at wide receiver is huge. This player becomes the go to option for QB Drew Allar. This means on the majority of passing plays this player is Allar’s first read. It also means this player will have a larger responsibility and they need to be able to handle the workload. They need to create separation against any defender and stay healthy as much as possible throughout the year.

It will be very interesting to see the starting lineup in the Blue / White scrimmage in April, as that will give us a first look at the WR depth chart. Also, it’ll be interesting to see who Allar targets the most in Spring Ball.

Here are my picks for WR #1 for Penn State Football during the 2023 campaign.
