Eddie did not participate in any matches the following season but he took part in two matches the year after that. During these two matches in the David Lehman Open, Smith competed as a 285 pounder.
During the current year, Smith suited up for the Mat Town Open and competed in two matches at 197.
Eddie is a two time Academic All-Big Ten recipient in 2021 and 2022 and he was awarded the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021.
Prior to Penn State
Before wrestling for the Nittany Lions, Smith competed for Scotch Plains Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, N.J. There he was a three year letterman and was the team captain for one season.
Eddie compiled a career record of 61-37, which does include shortened season due to an injury he sustained.
It’s clear Smith is an amazing student as evident by him winning several Academic Big Ten honors, and this is just a continuation of his excellence in the classroom as he earned numerous academic honor roll laurels in high school while at Scotch Plains.
