Penn State Football has been working hard to improve its roster via the transfer portal, but recruiting is starting to heat up again

Penn State Football received some good news on Tuesday afternoon with 4-star linebacker Anthony Speca committing to the Nittany Lions.

The Pittsburgh native was on campus this past weekended for Junior Day and it seems that visit went extremely well as Speca decided to shut down his recruitment.

Speca is rated as the No. 26 linebacker in the country and No. 9 player in Pennsylvania in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. His offer sheet is among the more impressive a Mid-Atlantic recruit can have as he had offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State, Texas A&M and Tennessee.

The 2024 recruit attends Pittsburgh Central Catholic, a powerhouse in Western Pennsylvania that Penn State has struggled to recruit at times. Adding Speca could open the door to a potential pipeline with one of the best football programs in the state.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, Speca profiles best at the middle linebacker position. That makes him a perfect fit as the Nittany Lions have had a lot of success recruiting outside ‘backers in recent classes but could use more depth at the MIKE position.

Speca is the second commit for Penn State football in the 2024 class. He joins fellow Pennsylvanian Cooper Cousins in the class. The two 4-star recruits are each ranked inside the top nine recruits in the state and give the Nittany Lions are strong start to the class.

Following the 2022, which finished No. 6 in the national rankings, and the 2023 class, which currently ranks No. 14, it’s important for Penn State to continue stacking talent in order to keep up with Ohio State and Michigan.
