Penn State Football is trying to close out the 2023 recruiting class on a high note

Penn State Football received some good news on Monday with 3-star DE Joseph Mupoyi announcing his commitment to Penn State.

Mupoyi’s commitment comes on the heels of his official visit to Happy Valley this past weekend. It’s safe to assume that visit went very well for the Nittany Lions.

The 247 Sports Composite ranks Mupoyi as the No. 45 edge players in the nation and sees him as a high 3-star with a rating of 0.8839.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Mupoyi attends St. Thomas More in Oakdale, CT. He is high school teammates with 4-star Penn State commit Zion Tracy. Tracy’s influence on his teammate was definitely something that cannot be overlooked.

The Nittany Lions had a hole at defensive end in the 2023 class, and Mupoyi now helps will that void. He may not be a ‘plug and play’ defensive end like Yetur Gross-Matos and Dani Dennis-Sutton were, but his size and athleticism make him a worthy project.

Mupoyi joins Jameial Lyons as the defensive linemen in the 2023 class. Chances are the Nittany Lions will try to add to this group before the cycle officially comes to an end in February.

Mupoyi had a rather quiet recruitment and ended up with only eight reported offers. Despite only having eight offers, it was an impressive list that included Auburn, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Utah.

With a little more than a week remaining until the early National Signing Day period, Penn State Football now has 20 commits in the 2023 class. The class holds firm at No. 13 in the national rankings but has a chance to move up with numerous targets still out there.
