Penn State football currently has the No. 14 class in the nation for the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Penn State football is in the process of building another great recruiting class and a possible piece to the puzzle is available again.

Daniel Harris, a 4-star cornerback from Miami, reponed his recruitment Monday evening as he decommitted from Georgia.

Rated as the No. 18 cornerback in the country, Harris had been committed to Georgia since July. It is somewhat of a shock to see a high-profile recruit like Harris back away from his commitment to the defending national champs, but that is the case here.

This news is significant to Penn State football because the Nittany Lions received an official visit from Harris back in June before his commitment to Georgia. While new players are likely involved with his new recruitment, Penn State should be in the picture.

The play of Penn State’s secondary this season is certainly enticing to recruits. As is the play of cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who is a projected first round pick. Porter would be the first ever Penn State cornerback to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft.

Ironically enough, 247 Sports player comparison for Harris is Porter.  Now, James Franklin and his staff will sell Harris on being the next Porter in the Penn State defense.

The Nittany Lions do already have six defensive backs committed in the 2023 class, but at least one may move to linebacker while three others seem to be safeties. Building depth is important, and Penn State has the room for Harris, so the staff should be going after him.

There is only one home game remaining for Penn State football and Harris already took an official visit to Penn State. So, the chances of him coming back up to Happy Valley are slim, but the staff can still do an in-home visit with him after the season.

This is definitely a story to watch as signing day inches closer.
