Four things we learned about Penn State Football this season
4. The future is bright
While it’s true Penn State football needs to improve to beat the two best teams in the conference, this is still a pretty good team.
10-2 is nothing to scoff at, especially with the way Penn State blew out teams. The Nittany Lions won six games by 28 or more points, that was tied for the most in the country.
While Penn State will lose some talented players like Mitchell Tinsley, Juice Scruggs, P.J. Mustipher, Sean Clifford, Joey Porter Jr, Ji’Ayir Brown and possibly some others like Brenton Strange, Parker Washington, Olu Fashanu and Curtis Jacobs, plenty of talent will definitely return.
The headliner is former 5-star recruit Drew Allar, who is poised to be the starting quarterback next year. He will be joined in the backfield by Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, the first ever Penn State running back duo to each has 1,000 scrimmage yards in a year.
On defense, true freshman Abdul Carter turned heads at linebacker. Defensive end Chop Robinson, cornerback Kalen King, linebacker Kobe King, safeties Zakee Wheatley and Jaylen Reed are notable defenders who will be in their third season in 2023.
Add in former 5-star recruit Dani Dennis-Sutton and incoming 4-star linebacker Tony Rojas, and this defense has a chance to be very special in 2023, especially if Diaz returns as the coordinator.
The transfer portal should help Penn State seal up some holes, but this is a young and exciting roster.
