Coming off the victory over Indiana, the (7-2) Penn State Nittany Lions welcomed the (6-3) Maryland Terrapins to Happy Valley. While Maryland did try, Penn State would pick up a dominant victory thanks to a full team effort, 30-0.

This win puts Penn State at 8-2 on the season and keeps them in good standing in the rankings. Like every game, we at Victory Bell Ring shave some game balls to give away, one for each aspect of the game, and here they are.

Offense- Nicholas Singleton, RB

The Penn State offense played very well today. They made a lot of big plays in big situations and scored early and often. Heading into halftime, Penn State would be up, 27-0. While this win was a team effort, one player stood out head and shoulders above everyone on the Penn State offense. Nicholas Singleton.

The freshman continues to come up big for Penn State. In the first quarter with 1:25 left, Singleton broke free for a 45-yard rushing touchdown to put Penn State up by two scores, 14-0. However, he wasn’t done there, he was only getting started. Singleton also ran for a 27-yard touchdown in the middle of the second quarter, giving Penn State the 21-0 lead.

Singleton finished the day with 11 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 11.1 yards per rush and even got involved a little bit through the air picking up one reception for five yards.

Defense- Abdul Carter, LB

This Manny Diaz defense has played very well this season. This game was not much different. Heading into halftime, they shut down Maryland, only allowing 27 yards on 20 pass yards and seven rushing yards, and sacked Maryland’s QB Taulia Tagovailoa five times.

Abdul Carter had a stellar day for the Penn State defense. Last week, Carter had a rather quiet week, picking up just two total tackles off of one solo, and one assisted tackle. However, this week could not be more different.

Carter picked up seven total tackles this game off of three solo tackles, and four assists. Carter also picked up a big sack early in the first quarter, and also managed to pick up a forced fumble in the process. Carter played a major part in the Nittany Lions’ defense this week and proved he is one of Penn State’s biggest forces.

Special Teams- Jake Pinegar, K

Last week, Pinegar tied his career-long that he hit last week when he connected with a 50-yard field goal with a little over one minute left in the second quarter. With no time remaining on the clock, Pinegar also picked up a 46-yard field goal to finish the half with Penn State leading, 27-0.

Around mid-way through the third quarter, Pinegar connected with his third field goal of the day, this time for just yards. This gave the Nittany Lions the 30-0 lead. Pinegar finished the day with three extra points, and three field goals, continuing to come up big for the Nittany Lions on the special teams aspect of their game.
