Penn State Football will play host to the Maryland Terrapins this weekend on Military Appreciation Day at Beaver Stadium, and the Nittany Lions will look to improve to 8-2 on the season and try to play their way into a New Year’s Six Bowl.

To do that, there are a number of things they’ll need to take care of in this one. This is a game that the Nittany Lions can and probably should dominate; but will they?

These are three keys to success for Penn State Football to ensure they take care of business and pick up the win against Maryland.

Limit explosive plays

Maryland’s offensive philosophy is a bit of high risk-high reward. They’ll put the ball in harm’s way a lot, but as a result, they usually connect on a few big plays–sometimes resulting in touchdowns.

For Manny Diaz and the Penn State defense, they’ll need to keep those explosive plays to a minimum on Saturday afternoon to really shut down the Terrapin offense.

It’ll be up to the Nittany Lions’ talented and experienced secondary to make sure they don’t get beat deep, but also to rally to the football and make tackles. Allowing the Terps to pick up a ton of yards after the catch doesn’t help matters.

If Penn State Football is able to keep everything in front of them on defense and force Maryland to have to mount long drives to score touchdowns, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to score very many points.
