Five recruits from Maryland that Penn State Football is targeting
3. 4-star QB Michael Van Buren (2024)
Drew Allar may be the future of Penn State football, but the program needs to start to look at what life after Allar looks like.
The Nittany Lions currently do not have a quarterback in the 2024 class, so the search is on.
One of the leading candidates is St. Frances Academy starting quarterback Michael Van Buren. Van Buren is rated as the No. 8 quarterback in the cycle and has offers from Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon and Wisconsin.
Alabama is likely out of the picture considering it has a quarterback commit, so this is a more winnable recruitment for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions struggle recruiting Van Buren’s high school. There is no reason to point to, but Penn State just doesn’t land St. Frances recruits. It is time for Penn State to reverse this trend.
Van Buren was just on campus for the Ohio State game, so he is in frequent contact with the Nittany Lions. Quarterbacks are usually the first domino to fall in a recruiting cycle, so this one could be wrapped up before next season.
Unfortunately, Penn State probably won’t be able to use Allar’s play in 2023 as a recruiting tool with a 2024 quarterback target with how fast they are committing. The staff will have to sell Van Buren on being the next Allar before Allar has even started a game.
