Conclusion

Beating Michigan certainly wouldn’t hurt Penn State football and its recruiting efforts, that’s for sure.

The impact though may not be as immense as fans want it to be. The other factors mentioned in the ‘argument against’ slide are real and are reasons why programs like South Carolina and North Carolina still seem to recruit well despite less than stellar records.

This would be a huge win for James Franklin, and one he probably needs in order to silence the critics and change those narratives discussed earlier. At the very least, a win in the Big House would help stop some negative recruiting against Penn State, which would be beneficial to the program’s recruiting efforts.

The biggest benefit would by far be the social media buzz Penn State football would receive from winning this game. Every recruit has Twitter and Instagram and there will definitely be plenty of posts about this game on both platforms. This happened after Penn State crushed Auburn, although Auburn’s struggles since have somewhat lessened that buzz.

No recruit is basing their decision of off whether or not Penn State wins this game. Obviously, no fan wants to see Penn State lose, and winning would bring some momentum to recruiting. Penn State’s overall body of work this season, along with how many Nittany Lions hear their name called on draft day will play bigger roles than just this game.
