3. Making more noise

Penn State’s staff no doubt has used the win over Auburn last year to their advantage when recruiting southern recruits.

The pitch is probably along the lines of saying, ” We just beat Auburn, you don’t have to be in the SEC to play big-time college football.”

Obviously, Penn State’s season did not end as well as it started in 2021. This is a new season though and winning at Auburn’s house would be far more impactful than last year’s win, no matter what people say about the condition of Auburn’s program right now.

Winning this game will continue to make Penn State a factor in the South for recruits. And not just with Nelson and English, but targets in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.

If Penn State comes down to Auburn and looks fast and strong like they did in the matchup last year, recruits are going to notice.

There are two other big-time matchups on Saturday. One is Oregon and BYU, which is on at the same time as this game. That won’t matter much as Penn State doesn’t battle for northwest recruits that often. The second game is Texas A&M and Miami, two schools Penn State does go up against. That game is at 9 p.m. though, so recruits will be able to watch both games, even if they’re attending one.

This is a golden opportunity for Penn State to go down to SEC country and make some noise.
