Penn State vs. Purdue: Who has the better Quarterback?
By Andrew Adair
Sean Clifford
When it is all said and done, Sean Clifford, barring injury, will be the best statistical quarterback in Penn State Football history. Clifford should be able to finish his collegiate career as Penn States’ leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passing attempts, and passing completions. Sure it has some to do with his longevity, but Sean Clifford is a solid Quarterback.
The M.O. on Sean Clifford has always been if he is healthy, Penn State can win the game. We saw it last season as Penn State started the season 5-0 and was beating Iowa until the signal caller went down with an injury.
Penn State went on a nine-game winning streak between the end of the 2020 season and the beginning of the 2021 season. Sean Clifford can win you some football games. On the flip side, he can also be the reason you lose some games.
This will be the first time in Sean Clifford’s career at Penn State that he has his offensive coordinator returning for a second season. That continuity should only help Clifford reach his full potential.
Sean Clifford can and will carry a team if needed. He is at his best though, if he has some resemblance of a running game. Clifford has proven to be elusive and a threat in the rushing attack on his own. With that, the risk of injury is much higher, and we have seen his durability come into question.
Sean Clifford is a top-tier quarterback at his best and can keep Penn State in any game. When healthy he has proven that he can make Penn State a contender.
