Week 10: Vs Maryland

The Nittany Lions will return home on Nov. 12 for a matchup with Maryland.

Penn State defeated the Terps 31-14 last year.

Maryland will come in with one of the best passing attacks in the conference.

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is back after completing 69.2% of his passes for 3,860 yards and 26 touchdowns last year. He threw 11 interceptions as well.

His talented receiver corps returns as well. Dontay Demus is back after suffering a season-ending injury in week five last year. Also back is Rakim Jarrett, who caught 62 balls for 829 yards and six scores last year. The Terps also brought in Florida transfer Jacob Copeland to round out the group.

While they will be able to pass, Maryland’s ability to run the ball is in question. Tayon Fleet-Davis led the way in 2021 with 721 rushing yards, but he’s now gone. Colby McDonald, who rushed for 325 yards and two scores last season is expected to start.

Defensively, the Terps struggled in 2021. The unit gave up 30.7 points per game.

The unit will be without Nick Cross, who is off to the NFL. He was second on the team in tackles, tied for third in sacks and first in interceptions. The team’s leader in sacks, Greg Rose, is also gone. Former 5-star defensive end Chop Robinson is also no longer with the Terps, he’s now a Nittany Lion.

Tagovailoa and his receivers are going to be asked to do a lot to keep this team afloat. Luckily for Penn State, they have a fantastic secondary and have the pass rushers to put pressure on Tagovailoa.
