1. Opportunity

It would be impossible for Nick Singleton to have a breakout season in 2022 if he never got any touches.

Thankfully, it looks like he will be receiving plenty of carries this year.

Singleton has asserted himself as a legit option at running back since his arrival in Happy Valley back in January. Thanks to his performances in practice and workouts, Singleton looks to have solidified himself as the No. 2 back. He will be behind junior Keyvone Lee, who is looking for a breakout season of his own.

Penn State’s running back room also got a little less crowded lately with redshirt sophomore Caziah Holmes announcing his intentions to transfer. This leaves the Nittany Lions with just four scholarship running backs, meaning more looks for Singleton.

While Singleton will receive more playing time, Penn State’s other three backs can hold their own out there as well. Meaning Singleton will not be asked to do too much and won’t have added pressure on him. This should keep him fresh and relaxed.

Singleton is being given an opportunity right away, which says a lot about how the staff feels about him. You have to play in order to breakout, and Singleton will definitely be playing.
