1. Nick Singleton (2022)

Nick Singleton finished the 2022 cycle as the No. 1 running back in the country, he also finished it as a Nittany Lion.

It’s easy to assume that a running back from Pennsylvania would be a sure thing for Penn State after the success the program has had with Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders and Journey Brown. That was not the case in this recruitment.

Schools from all other the country were after Singleton. He narrowed down his official visits to Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Penn State, Alabama and Texas A&M. Ohio State was also involved in this recruitment before landing a different running back commit. As you can see, the competition was as good as it gets.

The biggest challenger to Penn State was by far the Fighting Irish.

Singleton’s official visit to Notre Dame went so well to the point that there were reports that he may have silently committed to Notre Dame. It’s worth noting that his Notre Dame visit came after his Penn State one, so the Nittany Lions did not get the last say.

Regardless, the Penn State staff worker their magic and were able to turn the tide back in their favor. Singleton committed to Penn State last July, only a couple weeks after his supposed unofficial commitment to Notre Dame.
