Penn State running back Keyvone Lee was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List earlier today.

Keyvone Lee amassed 530 yards last year on 108 attempts, averaging almost 5 yards a carry.  He found the end zone twice last year and added 15 catches for 130 yards.   Despite less carries in 2021, he had the same yards per carry in 2020 and found the end zone twice as much.

Lee led the Nittany Lions in both attempts and yards last year in a crowded backfield that featured Noah Cain, John Lovett, Devyn Ford and Caziah Holmes.  Only Ford returns with Lee, but the backfield will still be crowded and will feature standout incoming recruit Nick Singleton.  The Nittany Lions will need a big year out of the backfield position in general, as Victory Bell Rings wrote about previously.

The Doak Walker Award is given to the nation’s top running back and was named after the former SMU Mustang great Doak Walker.  The Big Ten Conference has won three of the past four awards with Kenneth Walker from Michigan State last year and Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin in 2018 and 2019.

Lee was named one of 70 players to the watch list earlier today.  Let’s hope this means big things for Keyvone in 2022!
