Penn State Football: 3 takeaways from Elliot Washington’s commitment
1. Filling a need
Penn State football needed to become more consistent at recruiting high-level cornerbacks and Elliot Washington certainly fits the bill.
As mentioned before, if Penn State wants to keep up with the high-flying offenses of Ohio State and eventually USC in the Big Ten, the need to have good corner play.
The Nittany Lions now got one of the best in the nation in Washington.
Penn State now has five defensive backs committed in its 2023 class, and all five bring something different to the table. This group has a great combination of speed, physicality, athleticism and length.
That combination is important to have in the Big Ten, as one week you face Ohio State’s air raid attack and the next it’s Wisconsin’s ground and pound approach. Having versatility in the secondary is so important.
With Joey Porter Jr. likely gone after this season and Kalen King possibly gone after the 2023 one, grabbing a couple cornerbacks was a necessity in this cycle. Mission accomplished.
