Penn State football just landed a massive commitment from former Alabama commit Elliot Washington.

After a rough day on Thursday, Penn State football regrouped on Friday to land Elliot Washington.

Washington had been committed to Alabama, but many expected that to change after he took official visits to Michigan State and Penn State back in June.

Hailing from Venice, FL, Washington is listed at 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds. He has the size and athleticism to play either safety or cornerback. Considering the Nittany Lions already have as many as three safeties already committed, he is likely playing corner for Penn State.

Washington is listed as the No. 110 player in the country according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He is one of the highest rated defensive backs the Nittany Lions have brought in during James Franklin’s tenure.

This commitment was a shock as Washington did not schedule any announcement.

After yesterday, Penn State needed some recruiting momentum, and they got it in a big way. The fact that Washington is from Florida is also notable, because some thought the staff was losing their foothold in Florida with Marcus Stokes decommitting and Treyaun Webb picking Florida.

As long as Ja’Juan Seider is on Penn State’s staff, you can’t count them out for a recruit in Florida.

With how well Big Ten rival Ohio State recruits at wide receiver, the Nittany Lions stepping up their defensive back recruiting game was a must. They have done that as Penn State now has five defensive backs committed with four of them being 4-star prospects.

This is another case of how influential an official visit to Penn State can be, as Washington was not a familiar face on Penn State’s campus before his visit in June.

Penn State’s 2023 class now has 16 commits and ranks fifth in the national rankings.
