Three former Penn State Football standouts were named to the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame ballot on Monday afternoon.

The three names are some of the most recognizable in Penn State Football history. They are running back Ki-Jana Carter, linebacker Paul Posluszny and running back D.J. Dozier.

Carter was the star running back of Penn State’s 1994 team that went 12-0 and won the Rose Bowl. In three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Carter rushed for 2,829 yards and 34 touchdowns on 395 carries. His break-out season was 1994 when he rushed for 1,539 yards and 23 touchdowns and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Posluszny is arguably the best linebacker in Penn State Football history. Playing from 2003 to 2006, Posluszny is second on Penn State’s all-time tackle list. He finished his career with 372 total tackles, highlighted by back-to-back 116 tackle seasons in 2005 and 2006. He won the Bednarik Award in 2005 and 2006 and the Butkus Award in 2005.

Dozier is the only National Champion of this group, helping the Nittany Lions win the 1987 Fiesta Bowl over Miami. Dozier was the featured back in Penn State’s offense from 1983 to 1986. He rushed the ball 624 times for 3,327 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with catching 66 passes for 613 yards and four scores. Being the starting running back for four years is incredibly rare in College Football, but Dozier excelled in the role.

Penn State Football currently has 25 former players and coaches enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Star linebacker LaVar Arrington was announced as a member of the 2022 Hall of Fame class.

All three of these Penn State legends has a chance to join this group.

Carter was a runner-up to the Heisman Trophy and the first overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, Poslusny is one of two linebackers ever to win the Bednarik Award twice and Dozier is a four-year starter and a National Champion. They all certainly have an argument.
