Penn State Football Lands 4-star WR Ejani Shakir

Penn State Football added to its 2023 recruiting class on Wednesday night with the addition of 4-star wide receiver Ejani Shakir.

Shakir announced his decision on Twitter.

The 247 Sports Composite ranks Shakir as the No. 48 wide receiver in the country and No. 378 overall. 247 Sports themselves are a little higher on Shakir, rating him as the No. 27 wide out in the nation.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Shakir caught 28 passes for 555 yards and six touchdowns for Pennsauken (NJ) High School last season. The speedster has big-play ability, averaging 19.8 yards per catch last season.

The New Jersey product held offers from the likes of Boston College, Florida State, Miami, Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia. Penn State once again flexes its recruiting muscles in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Shakir is the first wide receiver commit in the 2023 class for Penn State. The Nittany Lions already have two tight ends committed in Joey Schlaffer and Andrew Rappleyea.

Between the 2022 and 2023 classes, Penn State is assembling a solid group of skill position players to put around a young and promising quarterback room of Christian Veilleux, Drew Allar, Beau Pribula and 2023 commit Marcus Stokes.

Wide receivers coach Tayor Stubblefield is hoping to add 4-star Rodney Gallagher to the 2023 haul in addition to Shakir. This would give the Nittany Lions an incredibly fast wide receiver group when taking into account the likes of Kaden Saunders, Tyler Johnson and Omari Evans from the 2022 class.

With Shakir in the fold, the 2023 class now has 12 members and moves up to the No. 3 spot in the national rankings. James Franklin is one step closer to reaching the goal of back-to-back top ten recruiting classes, something that has evaded him during his tenure in Happy Valley so far.
