Victory Bell Rings ranks the top 10 regular season dual meets for Penn State Wrestling in Cael Sanderson era

The Cael Sanderson era has brought unprecedented success to the Nittany Lion Wrestling program.

Pretty self-explanatory, right?

So with that, let’s jump into it!

Here are VBR’s top 10 regular season dual meets for Penn State Wrestling under Cael Sanderson

No. 10

December 3, 2017
Allentown, Pa (PPL Center)
No. 1 Penn State 23, No. 7 Lehigh 19

Penn State hit the road early in December 2017 to take on familiar in-state foe Lehigh at a sold-out PPL Center in Allentown.

The atmosphere inside the PPL Center was electric as No. 7 Lehigh had a strong lineup set to battle the No. 1 Nittany Lions in front of almost 10,000 people sardined into their seats.

And the Mountain Hawks had plenty to cheer about when they opened up a 15-0 lead after only the first three matches.

No. 1 Zain Retherford (PSU) then settled the crowd with a fall and No. 1 Jason Nolf (PSU) shut them up with a technical fall to cut the lead to 15-11.

No. 15 Gordon Wolf (LEH) won the next match via a major decision but these would be the last points Lehigh would get on the day.

No. 2 Mark Hall (PSU), No. 1 Bo Nickal (PSU), No. 11 Anthony Cassar (PSU), and No. 3 Nick Nevills (PSU) each won decisions to make the score 23-19 in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Penn State was able to erase an early 15 point lead by Lehigh and make some noise of their own, both on the mat and in the stands.

Lehigh and Penn State have had some close dual meets in their history, however, this was probably the MountainHawks’ best chance to win in a while.

Chalk another up for the Nittany Lions as they have now gone 11-0 against Lehigh in their last 11 matchups.
