YouTube’s TrueTan Wrestling joins Victory Bell Rings once again to break down the action in the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships and shares his opinions on Penn State’s performance as well as insights into the tournament as a whole

Apparently my mediocre writing and history of borderline crazy bold predictions didn’t scare away Tanner from YouTube’s TrueTan Wrestling, as he joins me again to share his perspectives and opinions on the incredible wrestling that took place last weekend in Detroit.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with or don’t know about TrueTan Wrestling, then what are you doing? Because you’re missing out on one of the best college wrestling channels on all of YouTube.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of Nittany Lion Wrestling, or (gasp) Iowa Wrestling, or simply a fan of college wrestling as a whole. The content on TrueTan Wrestling is comprehensive and very well done.

From lineup breakdowns, to how wrestlers landed at a certain college, to dual recaps, to news around the country, to amazing NCAA Championships recaps, TrueTan Wrestling covers it all.

But before we dive into the interview, here’s a little background information about the man who runs TrueTan Wrestling.

About TrueTan Wrestling

Tanner McHugh is a former Division III wrestler for Baldwin Wallace University in Cleveland, Ohio. And he took his passion for college wrestling and turned it into being an independent content creator on YouTube for TrueTan Wrestling. The channel focuses on the sport of wrestling, primarily Division I college wrestling. Tanner’s main passion is to detail wrestling news to fans and soon-to-be fans of the sport.

Here’s a look at what Tanner from TrueTan Wrestling thinks about Penn State Wrestling’s performance as well as other intriguing stories from the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships

VBR – Before we get to any specific questions, do you have any general thoughts or comments about the incredible wrestling action fans got to see in Detroit?

TTW – This tournament was obviously incredible, but I for sure have some huge takeaways. The new overtime rules added this year I think played a huge factor. I felt like there were several overtime matches between the elite guys here.

Upsets, upsets, upsets!

In reality, there are always early and late upsets, but that is part of the fun!

Oregon State and Northwestern were easily the most improved teams from last season. Both of them had alright duel schedules, but you could just tell those two squads were built for a tournament. The same can be said for Arizona State (not having the best duel team) who finished in the top four behind the Big 3. Shoutout to Nebraska who finished in 5th.

Ivy Leagues are back in town and they are here to stay. Welcome back teams like Penn, Princeton, and obviously Cornell.

The Big Ten also showed their skills at 197 and heavyweight (along with every other weight), but the Big 12 and even the small power five programs like the Pac-12 and ACC are growing talented wrestlers at an incredible rate.

A weight class like 174 or 197 perfectly shows that those conferences can compete with the dominant Big Ten. Michigan also was a few underperformances away from making this team race even more fun. They were fun to watch all tournament and their seniors will be missed.

The main takeaway or headline is Penn State Wrestling going five for five AGAIN! What can’t a Cael Sanderson Penn State team do?
