Running Back (1)

Much like quarterback, Penn State Football took two studs at running back in 2022 in Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, making the chances of landing elite talent a little more difficult.

Unlike in years past, there isn’t a lot of top running back talent in the region. Two of Penn State’s top targets, Treyaun Webb and Mark Fletcher, are from Florida. With running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider around, it’s hard to totally rule out a Florida running back for the Nittany Lions. Since 2019, Penn State has landed four running backs that played their high school ball in Florida.

Daylan Smothers out of North Carolina is another name to know. There’s also London Montgomery from Scranton, PA. The 3-star does not have a Penn State offer yet, but he was on campus in January for a visit. In the past month, Montgomery received offers from Michigan State, Rutgers, and Boston College, so his recruitment is starting to take off.

This board mirrors the quarterback one in the way that there are a lot of big names, but they would be following a 5-star from the class before, and none are really in the traditional recruiting region.

It feels that if Montgomery gets the offer he will be the guy, but could someone else jump on board before then?

Webb is expected to visit Penn State in the Summer, if that visit goes well, the Nittany Lions may be able to snag another Florida running back.

The Pick: Treyaun Webb
