Penn State Basketball plays the rare mid-week afternoon game, hosting the second battle of the year versus the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Penn State basketball, led by head coach Micah Shrewsberry, and returning starters Seth Lundy and friend of VBR John Harrar (download his app!) welcome the Minnesota Golden Gophers to town Thursday February 17th (2/17/2022) at 4:00 pm in the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pa. on the Big Ten Network (BTN).

Minnesota has falled off the NCAA Tournament bubble and really the NIT bubble as well, currently sitting at 12-11 (3-11) and tied for 12th in the conference.

The Golden Gophers have only one two games in their last 12 (home vs Rutgers and home vs Penn State on Saturday).  Payton Wilis leads the team in three point shooting (42.2%) and is averaging 16 points and 4.3 assists per game.  Forward Jamison Battle leads the team in scoring (16.5) and rebounding (6.3).

The Nittany Lions (10-12, 5-9), tied for 10th in the conference, played Minnesota just 5 days ago, when sixth year senior Eric Curry scored a career high 22 points.

Penn State Basketball kept it close the entire game but 13 turnovers to Minnesota’s three was the difference in the Golden Gopher six point win. Coming off the wild and unforseen victory over Michigan State, perhaps bringing a late season push for the NIT in play, can the Nittany Lions earn just their third two game winning streak of the season?

Penn State vs Minnesota University Injury Updates

Greg Lee missed his second straight game with a leg injury, although he did travel five days ago to Minneapolis, which led hope he would play vs Michigan State.

Lee is officially listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game.  Minnesota announced two forwards (Isaiah Ihnen and Parker Fox) out for the year back in October due to knee injuries and guard Will Ramberg was announced out indefinitely with a hand injury on 1/27.  Ramberg was averaging 0.5 points and 0.4 rebounds per game prior to the injury

Penn State Basketball vs Minnesota University Prediction

ESPN’s BPI gives Penn State Basketball a 72.2% chance of winning.

Every Penn State Basketball game seems like a close game.  That’s basically all they’ve played this year (which makes sense considering they are averaging 65.1 points and give up 65.5 points a game).  Minnesota stinks, but they just beat us five days ago.  So who knows.  You can probably bet on a close game, that much is likely.

Can momentum carry PSU to another home win?

Prediction: Penn State 71 – Minnesota 64
