Penn State Football: Top 5 players returning to lead the offense in 2022
By Andrew Adair
Someone has to be the leader on the offensive line right?
Landon Tengwall will need to be that guy for Penn State Football. The coaching staff decided to preserve Tengwalls’ redshirt status in 2021. The true freshman appeared in three games last season. The offensive line instantly looked better once Tengwall was inserted.
Tengwall has the best combination of youth and talent on the roster. Penn State needs Tengwall to assume the role of leader on the offensive line this offseason. The offensive line has been the biggest issue in James Franklins’ tenure at Penn State. Tengwall could be the player that turns that perception around.
Keyvone Lee has yet to have a full season as the number one running back. He has flashed in this running back by committee role. 2022 will be Keyvones’ best chance to assume the lead role. He is a big power back that hasn’t had the opportunity to wear defenses down throughout a game.
Lee lost his main competition for carries when Noah Cain transferred out. The incoming class of running backs is the most talented in the nation. For Keyvone to become the workhorse, he will have to start fast this season. He will also be on a short leash when it comes to ball security. The reinforcements are coming at the running back position, but Lee is more than capable of being Penn States’ best back.
