Remember when the Hoosiers started off the season 2-0 and outscored their opponents a combined 80-6? Granted it was against Bellarmine and SIUE, but IU still looked pretty solid and they had three ranked wrestlers anchoring their lineup. The momentum was going to continue, right?
Well, things didn’t exactly pan out the way they would like for Indiana in the remainder of their season.
IU was set to take part in both the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships and the Matmen Open at the end of December, however, both tournaments were canceled due to health reasons.
Then in their next scheduled dual meet against Ohio, the result ended up being a “No-Contest” as Covid-19 issues prevented it from being a full match.
Couple this with the underperformance of Cayden Rooks and Donnell Washington and it’s easy to see why the season fell off a cliff after the 2-0 start. But Indiana did beat Maryland 26-12 to firmly cement themselves a full step above the basement of the Big Ten.
So, congrats?
Next up for the Hoosiers is hopefully another “W” as they host Chattanooga on February 20th at 1:00 p.m.
