Big Ten Wrestling power rankings: Can anyone derail Penn State train?
By Chris Snyder
Revisiting the Big Ten Wrestling Power Rankings with the majority of the regular season duals coming to a close and March on the horizon, and Penn State Wrestling separating itself
The last time we produced a Big Ten Wrestling Power Rankings was way back in November 2021. And boy have things changed, especially for the nationally No. 1 ranked Penn State Wrestling!
So with the majority of the Big Ten Wrestling regular-season behind us, how about we take another look at the current power rankings? Well, according to me at least.
All rankings listed are as of the latest InterMat rankings.
So with that, let’s dive into it and see where everyone, including Penn State Wrestling, stands in our latest Big Ten Wrestling power rankings:
Dual Rank: NR
Record: 5-11 (0-7 B1G)
Ranked Wrestlers: 1

No, your eyes are not deceiving you.
Maryland Wrestling does indeed have a ranked grappler and they have won five dual meets for the first time since the 2017-2018 season.
And for as much crap as I tend to give the Terrapins and their poor wrestling track record, other teams in the Big Ten need to take notice of what Alex Clemsen and his staff have done at Maryland. Because they are a team trending in the right direction. Which first and foremost is to get out of the basement of the Big Ten.
The Terrapins got in the win column this season when they hosted a tri dual in early December with Drexel and Duke. Maryland went on to sweep both of these opponents 21-19 and 23-17 respectively. They continued their modest winning streak by pulling out an impressive win against Navy in the following home meet 18-16.
Following a 13th place finish in the Southern Scuffle and a 46-0 thrashing at the hands of Penn State, Maryland again won back-to-back matches against Kent State and Chattanooga in the 2022 Virginia Duals.
That was the good news. The bad news? The Big Ten regular-season was just about to kick in.
And as their record clearly states, Maryland is 0-7 in the Big Ten this season and they’ve been outscored a combined 248-35.
Ouch.
But I’m still convinced they’ll get a win in the Big Ten soon. And if they do, it will be their first dual meet victory against a Big Ten foe since they beat Michigan State back on January 10, 2016.
Next up for Maryland is away dual against Rutgers this Saturday (2/12) at 2:00 p.m.
