Penn State Basketball tries to end another conference losing streak travelling to Minnesota on Saturday.
Penn State basketball (9-11, 4-8), led by head coach Micah Shrewsberry, and returning starters Seth Lundy and friend of VBR John Harrar (download his app!) head to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers Saturday, February 12th (2/12/2022) at 8:30 pm in Williams Arena (aka ‘The Barn”) on the Big Ten Network.
Within days of Penn State announcing Micah Shrewsberry as the new head coach, Minnesota also hired a new coach, Ben Johnson.
Minnesota started hot, going 10-1 in their first 11 games but separate four and five-game losing streaks have fallen them to 13th place in the conference at 11-10 (2-10).
The Golden Gophers are led by Jamison Battle (17.2) and Payton Willis (16.5) in scoring, with WiIlls leading the team beyond the arc at 42.5%. Their last game out was their worst loss of the season, not to mention their fifth in a row, getting routed at Nebraska 78-65 who was previously winless in the conference.
Minnesota and PSU were scheduled to play in the Bryce Jordan Center on January 19th, but that game was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Golden Gopher program. That game was rescheduled to this Thursday (2/17) at 4:00 pm on the Big Ten Network.

Penn State at Minnesota University Injury Updates
Penn State Basketball’s Greg Lee was in a walking boot earlier this week and it’s assumed he will not be able to play versus the Golden Gophers.
Minnesota announced two forwards (Ihnen and Fox) out for the year back in October due to knee injuries and guard Will Ramberg was announced out indefinitely with a hand injury on 1/27. Ramberg was averaging 0.5 points and 0.4 rebounds per game prior to the injury.

You can argue Penn State was a shot away from winning the last two games. Having said that, it didn’t really feel like they deserved either game. This is a ‘what-if’ season for sure but in reality, the offense simply isn’t there to have any sustained success.
The NIT seems all but impossible at this point.
Winning on the road in this conference is brutal. Penn State Basketball only has one road win this year and it’s when they hit every shot in the final few minutes to take out Northwestern in front of like 23 people.
