How did four former Penn State Football players perform in the Reese’s Senior Bowl?
By Nick Kreiser
Jesse Luketa (defensive end/linebacker):
Though he was listed on the Senior Bowl roster as a linebacker, Luketa first saw action in the second possession of the game as a defensive end, where he played the entire afternoon.
Lined up in a 4-point stance, which is unfamiliar territory for him, Luketa made a nice inside move to shed a block and make a solo tackle on Alabama running back Brian Robinson. The play was otherwise well blocked, so had it not been for Luketa’s tackle, Robinson probably would have broken off a long run.
Luketa was back on the field for the final drive of the first half and went unblocked off the edge and got pressure on North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell, but the elusive Howell was able to shake free and get a pass away.
The Nittany Lion made up for it a few moments later though, as he won off the edge and got a strip-sack on the former Tarheel.
In the fourth quarter, Luketa once again got home for his second sack of the day, this time on record-breaking quarterback from Western Kentucky, Bailey Zappe.
Jesse Luketa also had a few other moments where he had a good pass rush, but the opposing quarterback did a good job of getting the ball out quick. The senior from Ottawa certainly turned some heads and perhaps improved his draft stock with his performance on Saturday.
