James Franklin and Penn State Football landed one of the nation’s premier offensive tackles in the 2023 recruiting cycle, adding four-star Jven Williams Saturday

Penn State Football’s hot streak with offensive line recruiting continued on Saturday with the addition of 4-star offensive tackle Jven Williams.

Williams took to Twitter to announce his big-time decision.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Williams resides in Reading, PA. He is rated as the No. 96 player overall in the 247 Sports composite and the No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania. A relatively new high-profile recruit, Williams has accumulated offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and USC, among others. Williams first appeared on the 247 Sports composite rankings as a 4-star in November, he was not ranked before then.

This now marks the second straight cycle that Penn State has landed the top offensive lineman from Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions signed 4-star Drew Shelton last cycle, after struggling with in-state linemen the couple classes prior.

Williams is the eighth commit in Penn State’s 2023 class, which moves up to third in the national rankings. He joins an impressive offensive line haul that includes 5-star Alex Birchmeier and 3-stars Joshua Miller and Anthony Donkoh.

Over the last two weeks, offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has landed four offensive line commits in three different classes. Donkoh committed last Friday and then was followed by 2024 OT Cooper Cousins on Saturday. There was then the surprise commitment of Vega Ioane on Signing Day on Wednesday, as the interior lineman became the final member of Penn State’s 2022 class. It’s taken a little time, and that’s probably due to the pandemic and the lack of visits, but Trautwein is starting to dominate the recruiting trail.

The offensive line was arguably the most crucial position for the Nittany Lions to recruit in 2023 and so far, Trautwein has answered the bell with one of the better hauls in the entire county.
