Penn State Football added to its stellar 2022 recruiting class, adding a surprise on National Signing Day, when the Nittany Lions inked 3-star OL Vega Ioane

Penn State Football received a pleasant surprise on Signing Day with the addition of 3-star OL Vega Ioane.

Offered just three weeks ago, Ioane took an official visit to Penn State this past weekend. This was his lone visit to Happy Valley, but the staff seems to have made up serious ground to the point where Ioane signed with the Nittany Lions.

Hailing from Graham, WA, Ioane was committed to the hometown team, Washington, but he de-committed after a coaching change occurred back in December. Ioane still seriously considered the Huskies, along with UCLA and Minnesota, but the team the furthest away from home ended up winning this one.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Ioane has the ideal size for an interior offensive lineman. He is rated as the No. 573 player in the 247 Sports composite and the No. 26 interior offensive lineman in the 2022 class.

Ioane is the 25th member of Penn State’s 2022 class, which finishes sixth in the national rankings. His addition helps replace the hole left by Andre Roye, who flipped from Penn State to Maryland on the first signing day back in December. The Nittany Lions needed to build some offensive line depth after only landing one offensive lineman in the 2021 cycle. Between the four signees in this class and the already three commits in the 2023 class, that depth looks to be on its way to being corrected.

The addition of Ioane certainly is a great way to end a historic recruiting class for James Franklin and his Nittany Lions. Ioane wasn’t the only positive from Wednesday, as 3-star JUCO safety Tyrece Mills was able to sign as well.
