Penn State lost one of it’s commitments to a Big Ten rival early Wednesday morning

National Signing Day is full of the unexpected, and this year is no different as Penn State football has lost a commitment from 3-star offensive lineman Andre Roye, who signed with Maryland Wednesday morning.

Roye committed to Penn State on Sept. 23 and had been relatively quite since then. That changed last week when Lincoln Riley offered him at USC and according to 247 Sports, Roye took an official visit there this past weekend. This led many to believe that if Roye did flip, it would be to the Trojans.

Instead, he will remain in the state of Maryland and play for the Terps. His high school teammate, and fellow Penn State target, Jaishawn Barham also flipped his commitment to Maryland on Wednesday afternoon. The 4-star linebacker had only been committed to South Carolina for four days.

Roye is the fourth decommit in Penn State’s 2022 class, which still has 24 members and has already signed some of the class as of Wednesday morning. Those who have already signed include 5-stars Drew Allar and Nick Singleton.

It is likely that offensive line coach Phil Trautwein uses the transfer portal to replace Roye instead of looking for a high school recruit who did not sign during the early period.
