Penn State Basketball goes on the road to try to create a conference winning streak in Madison, Wisconsin.

Penn State Basketball returns to action Saturday evening, taking on the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison.

The Nittany Lions, led by head coach Micah Shrewsberry, and returning starters Seth Lundy and friend of VBR John Harrar (download his app!) head to Madison for a matchup with the 11th ranked Wisconsin Badgers Saturday, February 5th (2/5/2022) at 6:00 pm in the Kohl Center on the Big Ten Network.

Can Penn State Basketball (9-9, 4-6) find a way to win in Madison?  Penn State has never won in the Kohl Center, and their last win at Wisconsin was in 1993, back in the ‘Wisconsin Field House.’  While Penn State has had some memorable wins over Wisconsin (like the 2011 B1G Tournament Quarterfinal 36-33 Nittany Lion win), winning at the Kohl Center has seemed a mountain Penn State has been unable to climb.

Wisconsin is led by guard Johnny Davis, who has had a resurgence this year, is averaging 21.4 points and 8.3 rebounds for the typically slow-paced Badger team.  He averaged just 7 points a year ago and is a main reseason Wisconsin is 17-4 (8-3 in conference) and ranked #11, despite likely falling after losing at Illinois Wednesday, 80-67.

Part of the reason Penn State has had zero success in Madison is the pace of play that Wisconsin often employs.  Wisconsin has no issue grinding out all 30 seconds of the shot (sound familiar) and usually get a high percentage shot off (ok that part doesn’t sound as familiar).  They are always a technically sound team who have do not blow leads, meaning the Nittany Lions cannot get off to a slow start.  The rowdy Kohl Center crowd adds to what makes a truly difficult place to leave victorious.

Penn State at Basketball Wisconsin University Prediction

ESPN’s BPI gives Penn State Basketball a 13.5% chance of winning.

This will be a low-scoring game, right?  Both teams are painfully slow offensively … Penn State Basketball’s best offense in most games is the end-of-shot clock fadeaway heave from Pickett.  So taking the under would make a lot of sense.  So that pretty much guarantees a high-scoring game cause #Vegas.  Penn State is coming off not only their best win of the year but probably their best performance but will that continue in the house of horrors that is the Kohl Center?

Prediction: Wisconsin 69 – Penn State 61
