Penn State Football’s top transfer portal targets on defense
Ty’Ron Hopper – Linebacker/Florida
Hopper was in the portal, then out, and is now back in the transfer portal officially and in need of a new home after three seasons in Gainesville with the Gators.
Hopper is a former four-star recruit out of Georgia, who had offers from the likes of Alabama, Miami, and Ole Miss coming out of high school. He was a breakout performer in 2021 with Florida at linebacker with 62 total tackles, two and a half sacks, a forced fumble and two pass breakups.
The Gators defense was their weakness last season under Dan Mullen, but Hopper was not, and now with a new coaching regime in Gainesville he is looking for greener pastures.
Listed on the Gators team site at six-foot-two and 228 pounds he is a terrific athlete who is best when playing in space and running sideline to sideline. He would remind Penn State Football fans of Brandon Smith who was also a bit undersized for the middle linebacker position in the Big Ten, but made up for it with speed and athleticism and now figures to be a Day 2 NFL draft pick.
As of now it doesn’t seem Hopper has any leans anywhere with no crystal ball predictions just yet, and getting him to come north to Happy Valley may be tough, however would be a terrific coup if they could pull it off.
