Drew Allar headlines a trio of Penn State Football signees lifted the Nittany Lions’ 2022 recruiting class to new heights this week

The trio of Drew Allar, Nick Singleton and Dani Dennis-Sutton made some more history on Wednesday when all three Penn State Football signees earned 5-star status from 247 Sports.

Earlier in the week, the three Penn State football signees received the honor from On3. Dennis-Sutton also has a fifth star from Rivals, but Allar and Singleton do not.

What makes this ranking update significant is that it comfortably places the three Nittany Lions in the 247 Sports composite 5-star rankings. Because the composite takes each site’s rankings into consideration, it is considered the fairest and most accurate rankings.

In the composite, Singleton comes in at No. 30 and is the No. 1 running back, Dennis-Sutton comes in at No. 28 and is the sixth ranked defensive lineman and Allar comes in at No. 31 and is the No. 4 quarterback.

Allar’s ranking is much higher on 247 Sports’ own rankings, where he is No. 3 nationally and the top quarterback recruit.

This is the second time in program history that Penn State has signed three composite 5-stars in the same class. The other occurrence was in 2018 with Micah Parsons, Justin Shorter and Ricky Slade. One difference between the two classes is that all three of the 2022 signees have the fifth-star designation from 247 Sports, Slade did not in 2018.

Penn State signed two composite 5-stars in back-to-back classes in 2004 and 2005 with Dan Connor and Anthony Morelli in 2004 and Derrick Williams and Justin King in 2005. They are only the other two instances in which Penn State signed multiple composite 5-stars in a recruiting class.

Headlined by the trio of 5-stars, Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class ranks sixth in the national rankings. The goal is to now for head coach James Franklin is to back up this historic recruiting class with another in 2023. The Nittany Lions currently have the No. 4 ranked class in the 2023 rankings.
