5 Thoughts on Penn State Football’s loaded 2022 recruiting class
4. Penn State Football’s Pass Rush Should See a Boost
Penn State Football’s 2021 pass rush was not what we’ve been accustomed to.
Outside of Arnold Ebiketie, Penn State struggled to generate a consistent pass rush, and it cost them at times.
Part of the issue was that projected defensive end starter Adisa Isaac missed the entire season with an injury, and injuries that piled up at defensive tackle didn’t help either.
While the defensive tackle position was able to recover, thanks to a quality amount of depth at the position, the defensive end was not able to.
The position was an emphasis during the 2022 cycle and defensive line coach John Scott Jr. was able to deliver.
This group is highlighted by 4-star Dani Dennis-Sutton, who was one of the more sought-after defensive ends in this cycle, with the likes of Alabama and Georgia after him.
At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Dennis-Sutton already has the physical traits to play in college. Ken Talley joins Dennis-Sutton on the line, he’s a bit smaller at 6-foot-2 and 243, but he has the speed to come off the edge and has put up monster numbers throughout his high school career.
Penn State did have another 4-star edge prospect committed in Tyreese Fearbry, but he decommitted after only being committed for a few weeks and signed with Kentucky on Wednesday..
While Abdul Carter is listed at linebacker, it’s possible that he will eventually make the move to defensive end. Carter is 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds and may be the best pound for pound athlete in this class. His speed and power make him an ideal option at both outside linebacker and defensive end, it may come down to how big he gets.
