The transfer portal has been busy already with the addition of a few big name quarterbacks who should be on Penn State Football’s radar

Penn State Football finds itself in a precarious spot when it comes to the quarterback position in 2022.

Sean Clifford has been on campus since 2017 but due to the extra year of eligibility because of Covid-19 he could come back for a final season next year. As of now Clifford has said he has not made a decision and that is something he will decide on after the bowl game.

It is well documented Penn State Football has five star and top-rated quarterback Drew Allar coming to Happy Valley this January.

Would Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich want to hand the keys to the offense to a true freshman? Will Clifford come back and ease the transition to Allar?

Both are possible, but if Clifford moves on to what’s next after Penn State, expect the Lions to look to the portal, even if to just have a mentor for Allar and a viable back up, to avoid the disaster that occurred this season when Clifford went down.

Let’s take a look at the best options in the portal right now and how they would fit within the Penn State Football quarterback room:

Myles Brennan – LSU

Brennan, like Clifford, had been on LSU’s campus since 2017 but has not seen anywhere near the playing time as Clifford.

Brennan started three games in 2020 before an injury cost him his starting job, but did sit behind Joe Burrow on their 2019 National Championship team. For his career he has 1,712 yards and 13 touchdowns to six interceptions.

The former four-star, top 150 recruit would be the ideal candidate to bring in to mentor Drew Allar through his freshman campaign and be a very solid backup plan should Allar get injured or just not quite be ready for big time college football in his first season on a college campus.

The hold up will be Brennan will presumably want to go somewhere he can start and play in his final year before trying his hand in the NFL.

Brennan lacks any elite traits but did light it up in the three games he played in 2020.

In those three starts against SEC competition he threw for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns to only three interceptions.

Brennan would be a low risk, low reward type addition that would allow for Allar to still be the guy next season.
