The Hawkeyes have been relatively quiet thus far in the 2021-2022 season as they have competed in a tournament and a home dual.

Iowa sent 21 grapplers to the 2021 Luther Open on November 13th, and they had some strong, to quite strong results as seven wrestlers took home titles.

Jesse Ybarra (125), Austin DeSanto (133), Jaydin Eierman (141), Cobe Siebrecht (149), Kaleb Young (157), Alex Marinelli (165), and Zach Glazier (197) all lifted hardware in winning their respective weight classes.

The Hawkeyes then hosted Princeton in a home dual on November 19th. While Princeton did put up a fight, it was always going to be an uphill climb against a team as talented as Iowa. Even without Dan Hodge Trophy winner Spencer Lee, Iowa defeated Princeton 32-12. Speaking of Lee, I wonder if he somehow managed to tear a third ACL in his body as he has yet to see the mat this season.

And the final score would have been more lopsided had No. 3 Tony Cassioppi not gotten pinned in the first period by an unranked Jack Del Garbino at 285. Talk about a shocking result.

But what’s not shocking is that Iowa is still No. 1 in the Big Ten Power Rankings.

Next up for Iowa is a home dual against Army on November 28th.
