Nebraska drops down a spot to No. 5 in this week’s power rankings, but it’s not because of their results on the mat so far this season.

The Cornhuskers got the season started by hosting the Nebraska Duals on November 11th, and the tri dual featured both Chadron State and Nebraska-Kearney. The results were pretty much what you would have expected as Nebraska rolled 31-9 and 45-6.

Next up was a much anticipated home dual against UNC on November 17th for a special “Pepsi Pack The House – $1 Tickets”. Whatever that is…

The dual meet featured 13 ranked grapplers and four ranked matches. But the result, at least to me, did not end up exactly how you would have expected as Nebraska absolutely outclassed UNC to the tune of a 27-6 drubbing.

One match in particular which was shocking was when No. 16 Peyton Robb dispatched of the reigning NCAA Champion at 149 (No. 2 Austin O’Connor) in a decision 5-2. Did O’Connor make a mistake in moving up to 157 this season? Only time will tell.

The Cornhuskers then took part in the Daktronics Open on November 21st, where they won three individual titles (Mikey Labriola 174 – Silar Allred 197 – Christian Lance 285) and two runner-up finishes.

Next up for Nebraska is a trip to Las Vegas as they are set to compete in the Cliff Kleen Las Vegas Invitational on December 3rd and 4th.
