Penn State Football remains unranked by the College Football Playoff Committee, despite a pair of ranked wins this season

The College Football Playoff Committee chose not to rank Penn State again when they released this week’s rankings Tuesday night.

Despite ranking five three-loss teams, Penn State was determined not worthy of a top 25 position.  This was further bizarre thanks to the two three-loss teams they did rank being Auburn and Wisconsin.

If memory serves, Penn State beat both of those teams … and when asked why a road win (covering the spread) vs Maryland wasn’t enough to rank Penn State, College Football Playoff Selection Committee Chair Gary Barta stated:

"“Yeah, I’d say this week we talked about them (Penn State) more than a week ago, and we talked about them a week ago. They’re in the conversation. The committee sees them as a very good team, a tough team to play. When we talk about somebody beating Penn State, it’s seen as a good win. Like most of the times when we have these conversations, when you compare them — I’ll look at No. 25 this week who’s Arkansas. They have a win over Texas A&M and they beat Mississippi State. So are they in the discussion? Yes. They haven’t made it to the top 25, but very good football team.”"

Huh?!?

What does this even mean?

So, beating Penn State counts as a quality win, but we won’t rank them?

Penn State’s resume gets ignored by the College Football Playoff committee

The direct comparison to Arkansas is even more baffling, stating they have wins over now No. 11 Texas A&M and Mississippi State, who is unranked. But, Penn State has wins over No. 17 (Auburn) and No. 18 (Wisconsin) in the current rankings … and almost certainly was a healthy Clifford away from a win over No. 20 (Iowa).

With two games of the final three against current top-ten teams, Penn State will certainly have every opportunity to move into the rankings. But, this week’s explanation from Barta is nothing more than furthering the $EC narrative.
