Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry opened up about some of the biggest issues facing his Nittany Lions this upcoming season

Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry spoke to media for the first time in a while Monday, and he provided some key takeaways that will likely have a big impact on the team that takes the floor on November 10th.

First and foremost, returning likely starter Myles Dread has been limited with an injury earlier in the month, but Coach Shrew said he is on track to be ready when the season opens.

Described as ‘nothing serious’ gives hopes Dread will be ready, but 15 days can go quickly.

Fortunately, it was announced he is at practice and doing ‘almost everything.’

News is not as good for junior college transfer Jevonnie Scott.

The program announced they are working through some NCAA transfer issues right now and he is not currently with the team.

"“He’s still currently taking classes, he’s here,” Shrewsberry told reporters. “We don’t have a timetable, but kind of wait and see and going through it and see what this process holds for us…he’s doing what he needs to do to be ready to go when the time comes.”"

Scott transferred from South Plains College (Texas) and at 6’7″ and 252 pounds plays a key role in the frontcourt for the 2021-2022 Nittany Lions.

The fact Scott is not with the team right now tells us this probably isn’t going to be resolved tomorrow.

Shrewsberry declined to go into further detail about what the issue is with the NCAA, but at their typical slug’s pace, it’s possible we may not see Jevonnie Scott anytime soon.

In our summer Victory Bell Rings line-up projection piece, Scott and fellow transfer Greg Lee were each expected to compete for the starting power forward position, although we leaned towards Lee earning the nod.
