Penn State Basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry added a big get, filling a big need, Western Michigan’s Greg Lee from the transfer portal

Western Michigan forward Greg Lee has committed to Penn State Basketball from the transfer portal.

Lee fills a HUGE position of need as the Nittany Lions as currently the only bigs on the roster are John Harrar and transfer Jevonnie Scott.  Lee initially played for Cal State Bakersfield as a 6’9″ prospect from Houston, Texas.  He averaged 4.9 points in 92 games (46 starts) for the Roadrunners before transferring to Western Michigan.

Lee initially announced his return to Broncos after the season ended in March but in April entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal. He averaged 13.0 points per game last year with 7.2 rebounds, which ranked 7th in the MAC and 5th in defensive rebounding (5.8).  He was also 10th in the conference with a .504 field goal percentage.

Penn State Basketball’s frontcourt is incredibly thin after the departure of Trent Buttrick (UMass), Abdou Tsimbila and the loss of previously signed recruit (by Pat Chambers) four star Taquan Woodley.

Here’s where the Penn State Basketball roster currently stands, after adding Greg Lee

PG — Boogie Cornwall, Sam Sessoms

SG — Jalen Pickett

SF — Seth Lundy, Myles Dread

PF — Jevonnie Scott, Greg Lee

C — John Harrar

Other reserves:  Daillon Johnson, Caleb Dorsey, Andy Christos

The Lions could still use a backup center and more shooting guard depth, but this was a decent “get” at a huge position of need for Nittany Lions head coach Micah Shrewsberry.  Hopefully, Shrewsberry can round out a roster worthy of playing for a postseason berth.
