Penn State Football: Reasons for worry … and for optimism in second half of season

Reason for Optimism – Penn State Football’s Wide Receivers
The passing game has been great this season for Penn State Football, and the wide receivers are a big reason why. Led by one of the best wide receivers in the country in Jahan Dotson, and followed up by a great sophomore duo in Parker Washington and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the wideouts are one of the biggest strengths of this team.
The receivers will continue to play a big role this season, especially in some of the biggest remaining games on the schedule, such as Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 10th in the Big Ten in each of the following categories; opponent’s completion percentage, opponent’s passing yards per attempt, and total passing touchdowns allowed on the season.
Along with the Buckeyes, many of Penn State’s remaining opponents are towards the bottom half of the conference in most passing defense categories, so there will be plenty of opportunities to push the ball downfield through the air.
Being able to get open and hit on chunk plays down the field will be instrumental for the Nittany Lions’ offense in the second half, especially if they continue to struggle running the football.
If Sean Clifford does miss significant time, the receivers will also be very important in helping to make Ta’Quan Roberson’s job as easy as possible, by getting open and making plays for their backup quarterback.
Penn State Football has one of the best groups of wide receivers in the conference, and if the Nittany Lions are able to run the table, those receivers will be a big reason why.
