Penn State fell to Iowa 23-20 on Saturday, but the final score doesn’t tell the full story, and that’s what kept the Nittany Lions from falling too far.

Penn State led this game 17-3 halfway through the second quarter, and was moving the ball with ease. On the drive that led to the field to stretch the lead to 14, quarterback Sean Clifford took a big hit and left the game, unable to return.

Life with backup quarterback Taquan Roberson was not good as the Nittany Lions managed just three points the rest of the game. In addition to not scoring, they didn’t move the ball at all and put their defense in tough spots. Eventually, the defense tired and Iowa was able to move the ball and score.

Penn State Football looked like the better team and likely wins if Clifford stays in, that wasn’t the case though. The Nittany Lions head to their bye week hoping Clifford’s injury isn’t long term.
